{"id":2160,"date":"2024-10-21T16:20:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-21T16:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/impress-he.eu\/?p=2160"},"modified":"2024-11-14T07:38:49","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T07:38:49","slug":"bridging-gaps-for-sustainable-food-systems-insights-from-foodtech-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/impress-he.eu\/nn\/2024\/10\/21\/bridging-gaps-for-sustainable-food-systems-insights-from-foodtech-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"IMPRESS Presence at FoodTech 2024 Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This October, IMPRESS\u2019 coordinator <strong>Brijesh Tiwari<\/strong> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teagasc.ie\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.teagasc.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TEAGASC<\/a> took the stage at the <a href=\"https:\/\/foodtech.uns.ac.rs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FoodTech 2024 Congress<\/a> in Novi Sad, Serbia, organised by the Food Institute of Novi SAD (<a href=\"https:\/\/fins.uns.ac.rs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FINS<\/a>), to share valuable insights on building sustainable food systems and updates on IMPRESS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As a plenary speaker, Tiwari delivered a lecture titled <strong>\u201cMissing Gaps to Establish Sustainable Food Systems\u201d<\/strong>, emphasising the need for a holistic approach to food production, distribution, and consumption. He explained that current food systems are inefficient and unsustainable, with <strong>9.2%<\/strong> of the global population experiencing <strong>chronic<\/strong> <strong>hunger<\/strong> in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Furthermore, food systems are a major contributor to the climate crisis, responsible for one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions. To create a sustainable food system, Tiwari noted the significance of tackling critical knowledge gaps, such as <strong>understanding<\/strong> the link between sustainability and resilience, <strong>identifying<\/strong> key stressors affecting food systems, and <strong>exploring<\/strong> emerging solutions. He also advocated for new metrics to measure resilience and stressed the importance of engaging all food system stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The FoodTech 2024 Congress was a dynamic event that brought together <strong>372 participants<\/strong> from <strong>27 countries<\/strong>. With <strong>90 lectures<\/strong>, <strong>14 plenary talks<\/strong>, and <strong>250 poster presentations<\/strong>, it sparked discussions on technology transfer, food regulations, and the future of food systems. A Food Fair, featuring 40 traditional food producers, added a flavourful twist to the event.
