The IMPRESS пројекат has officially launched its educational activities, marking an important step in one of the project’s major engagement pillars. The first session took place in Gijón, Spain, and was hosted by consortium partner Неоалге, bringing the project’s sustainability-focused outreach directly to young learners.

Bringing IMPRESS Closer to Young Learners

The inaugural educational visit welcomed 17 students, aged 18 to 33, from a local Vocational Education and Training programme to Neoalgae’s facilities. The session introduced participants to key themes connected to the IMPRESS project, including environmental sustainability, circular economy principles, microalgae cultivation, aquatic organisms, and the role of consumer behaviour in supporting environmental protection.

As part of the visit, students also learned about the products developed within the IMPRESS project, connecting the project’s broader research work with practical examples of sustainable innovation. The activity provided an opportunity to translate IMPRESS concepts into accessible, real-world discussion for young consumers and future professionals.

The First Step in a Wider Educational Programme

This first educational event represents the beginning of a wider series of outreach activities under the IMPRESS framework. With five more educational sessions planned, the project will continue building awareness around sustainable practices, zero-waste value chains, and the role of aquatic resources in more responsible food and bio-based systems.

The launch of the educational activities in Spain reflects IMPRESS’ broader mission to engage stakeholders and promote sustainable, circular approaches across marine and freshwater value chains. The project’s overall vision includes addressing sustainability challenges in the marine and freshwater sectors, including the valorisation of processing waste streams and the promotion of underutilised low-trophic species.
